Michigan Notable Author Wade Rouse / Viola Shipman

Last night I was lucky enough to hear Michigan Notable Author Wade Rouse (who also writes fiction under the pen name Viola Shipman) read from his latest memoir, The Magic Season: A Son's Story, and his new novel, Famous in a Small Town.

Wade was funny, vulnerable, poignant, and informative. He took questions - I got to ask him about his writing process! - and signed books and made us all feel good in general. He spoke about the ripple effect of kindness and goodness, which very much resonated given today's world.

I just downloaded Magic Season, and am looking forward to the release of Famous in a Small Town on June 13. Wade's novels predominately take place in Michigan, making our state's towns - from Petosky to Saugatuck to Good Hart - as much of a character as the characters themselves. His fiction writing offers escapism and quirkiness - perfect beach reads!

Of course we followed up the event with ice cream and Dole Whip. 🙂
